Tsubasa Matsumoto is a bilingual director based between NYC and Tokyo. Born and raised in Tokyo, he dropped out of high school and moved to Idaho alone to pursue his dream of becoming a director. He later graduated with a BFA in Film & Television from NYU Tisch School of the Arts.

His work spans commercials, music videos, fashion films, narratives and passion projects— each shaped by a cinematic eye, emotional truth, and a quiet obsession with detail.

Whether he's shooting in the mountains, trespassing MTA property for passion projects, or simmering sauce for hours, he approaches creation with precision and wonder. His short film Prelude, a love story between a sperm and an egg, was awarded at Tribeca Film Festival. He’s directed campaigns for brands like Valentino, Vogue, UNIQLO, Brandon Blackwood, Hoegaarden, and Toyota. He’s also collaborated with artists including JayRole, Aya Gloomy, Toko Miura, and MISIA.

Pushing boundaries, he seeks to take risks, influence trends, and ultimately create new classics that will touch people’s hearts even 100 years from now. His favorite film is American Beauty and his favorite drink is milk.

When he’s not directing, he’s probably hiking, cooking eggs benedict, or dreaming about a future farmhouse, a vintage Mercedes, and a wooden boat that serves no purpose other than to be beautiful.
